What is a product recall?

A product recall happens when an item is found to be unsafe or faulty and needs to be removed from sale. This could be due to risks to health or safety, such as electrical faults, contamination, or incorrect labelling. Recalls are issued to protect consumers and may lead to a refund, a replacement, or a repair.

There are several trusted sources where you can check for recalls in Scotland:

Office for Product Safety and Standards

The Office for Product Safety Standards (OPSS) operates a UK-wide public database of recalled goods, and shares safety alerts. Consumer Scotland works in partnership with OPSS to ensure consumers in Scotland can access the database.
